Healing through Rieki with Kayren Moorhead
This ‘new normal’ is having a profound impact on our mental well-being and people are determined to find ways to help alleviate anxieties and stress.
Over the past couple of weeks, I have received so many messages from people asking me about alternative healing practices, as they struggle to adjust to this new reality in their lives.
My friends and colleagues all know that I have practiced various healing techniques over the years and now, more than ever, people have an interest in finding out more about these. I have previously spoken on here with Aishling Killoran about EFT and the benefits it can bring to people during this time.
Today, I wanted to bring you some information about Reiki. I have studied Reiki myself many years ago under the patient guidance of Kayren Moorhead.
Kayren has been involved with Reiki for 12 years and is a Reiki and seichem master, practitioner and teacher. There is very little that she doesn’t know about the practice, yet she admits that she didn’t find reiki, but rather, it found her! She has been a wonderful teacher to me and I wanted to bring our audience some of that guidance at this time.
What is Reiki?
There can be some confusion about what Reiki actually is and how it works. Reiki is a Japenese type of healing that focuses on stress reduction and relaxation. Reiki practitioners use a technique called hands-on healing through which energy is said to be transferred through the hands of the practitioner to their patient. They will target the energy fields around the body, because, according to practitioners, energy can stagnate in the body where there has been physical injury or even emotional pain.
How did Kayren’s Reiki journey start?
Kayren told me from the very start that Reiki was one of best gifts that she has ever given herself. Working in corporate finance for years, she journeyed miles up and down to Dublin, with her small baby in the car each day to go to work. But following the birth of her second child, Kayren suffered with post natal depression, although she hadn’t realised this at the time.
It wasn’t until she had her first Reiki session, that Kayren started to realise that something in her life just didn’t quite fit. She says that during her first session, it was like a light being switched on and helped her to understand what was really important to her. Kayren started to remember that she had a gift in helping people heal and she then understood, that this was something she really wanted to do. Taking this decision has also allowed her to spend more quality time at home with her family.
I have found this practice to be one of the most useful things I have ever practiced and i believe that once anyone gives it a try, that they will get some benefit from it.

Until next time, stay safe and look after yourselves.
