Dublin City invites you to take a Daycation!

A new campaign launched this week by the Dublin Place Brand and Dublin.ie encourages people to ‘Make A Day Of It’ in Dublin

Wasted Media is proud to help promote and support this new campaign, which has been created to increase awareness of Dublin city and region on the global stage. With strong creative images of iconic sites across the capital, this campaign provides a strong identity for Dublin City.

Why is this campaign so vital?

10% of all jobs in the Dublin region depend on Tourism. According to a recent report by Ernst & Young, Tourism was the first sector hit by the Covid pandemic and is likely to be the last one to emerge from the crisis Details of the EY Report can be found here

According to the CSO, by June 2020 more than 3 in 5 (62.9%) enterprises in Accommodation and Food Services had ceased trading, either temporarily or permanently. Details of the CSO Report can be found here

However, the great news, is that about two thirds of businesses in the tourism sector plan to re-open in 2020 and according to Fáilte Ireland most of them (61%) plan to re-open this summer. Find details of Failte Ireland’s Report here

What is the campaign trying to achieve?

This new campaign is the work of Dublin.ie, a one-stop shop for information on living, working, studying and investing in our capital city. The aim is to stimulate economic activity in the local tourism, retail and hospitality sector, by inviting people to visit some of Dublin’s best-known visitor attractions.

The campaign is now live and is running mainly on Outdoor media platforms (including Digi- panels, bus shelters and Big Belly street units) across the city. It will also be supported by online and social media coverage (including here at Wasted.ie).

Make a day of it / Caith lá ann

‘Make A Day Of It’ is the concept behind the campaign, encouraging people to safely return to the city and spend the day enjoying the city’s great cafes, restaurants, and shops while they’re in town.

“It’s amazing how little most of us actually know about our own city,” said the Lord Mayor of Dublin Hazel Chu. “Dublin has so much to offer and yet all the tourists who come here get to see more of it than we do. So that’s why I’m backing this campaign. My message to all Dubliners is get out, enjoy your city, visit some of the great attractions you never get a chance to visit during normal times, and Make A Day Of It while you’re at it.”

Some of the attractions featured include the Hugh Lane Gallery, GAA Museum, Dublin Castle, the Little Museum of Dublin, and the Teeling Whiskey Distillery.

If you’re not sure where you would like to start, just visit Dublin.ie to see some sample itineraries on how to spend the day! It’s all there!
