Toyota Yaris shortlisted for Car of the Year in 2021
Toyota Yaris shortlisted as finalist for “European 2021 Car of the Year”
26th January 2021. The Toyota Yaris has been shortlisted as a finalist for the “2021 Car of the Year” award. Seven finalists from an initial list of 29 new cars launched in 2020 will be judged by an international expert jury comprising 60 senior European motoring journalists on 1st March 2021.
The Yaris is a long-time favourite of Irish customers and a former winner of the European Car of the Year. It has enjoyed sustained popularity with both the Yaris self-charging hybrid and Yaris petrol supporting the model’s excellent reputation for consistent innovation. The GR Yaris, developed with the experts at TOYOTA GAZOO Racing World Rally Team, incorporates advanced technology to bring even more excitement to the Yaris model. The 4th generation Yaris launched in Ireland in June 2020, having been redesigned with both style and performance in mind.
The Yaris self-charging hybrid has all-electric EV capabilities that have been significantly enhanced and now EV driving is possible for longer periods in urban traffic, driving up to 80% of the time in EV mode. The new EV capabilities make this the most electrified self-charging small car segment car on the market. With a new dynamic design and engaging interior, the Yaris self-charging hybrid appeals to customers who are motivated by stylish looks, a dynamic drive, and those who want a progressive car that has much less environmental impact.
The new generation Yaris includes the first application of Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) in compact cars and is engineered to be the world’s safest compact car. This award nomination for “2021 Car of the Year” follows the Yaris award wins of the WhatCar?’s “True MPG Award” for most efficient car and SAFETYBEST 2020 prize for the development and fitment of centre airbags.
The highly regarded “European Car of the Year” awards are run by nine motoring publications from nine European countries, and have been running since 1964. Steve Tormey, Chief Executive of Toyota Ireland commented on the announcement: “The Toyota Ireland team are delighted that the Toyota Yaris has been named as a finalist in the 2021 European Car of the Year awards. The Yaris has been at the pinnacle of driving innovation since it was first launched and has now established itself as an international favourite in its field.
This award nomination caps off a fantastic last 12 months for the Yaris, and as the new generation Yaris self-charging hybrid brings new EV capabilities, drivers can enjoy many of the benefits of a battery electric vehicle, but at a lower price and with no concerns about when or where the battery can be recharged. The Yaris represents Toyota’s spirit of continuous improvement and reinvention, and we are truly proud that it continues to go from strength to strength in the market.”
The Yaris is now available in Toyota dealerships with prices starting from €18,995 for petrol and €23,055 for hybrid with monthly payment options starting at €138 for petrol and €143 for hybrid Interested customers are advised to contact their dealership and go online to use our virtual tools to explore the new Yaris.
